Author Biography

Daria Vorobyeva, University of St Andrews

Dr Daria Vorobyeva holds a PhD from the School of International Relations, the University of St Andrews (Scotland, UK). Her PhD thesis was entitled: 'Forced ethnic migrants’ integration: Syrian Armenians in Armenia and Lebanon (2011-2016)'. In her study, Daria analysed the influence of various socio-cultural and economic factors on the process of integration in a country of immigration. These included such aspects as government policies and official rhetoric towards the newcomers, cooperation among NGOs and state institutions, psychological factors related to the forced nature of migration and integration in a perceived ethnic homeland, employment opportunities available to the forced migrants, cultural similarities and differences, and others. Daria is interested in research on migration, integration and diaspora in general and in the Middle Eastern, post-Soviet and European context in particular. Her second area of specialisation is Russian foreign policy towards the Middle East, especially Syria. She has published and presented on both topics.
